Most people just bother about the price factor when they are hunting for a new cartridge for their printer. Like it or not, but the moment you purchase an inkjet printer, you have to bear the fact that you’ll have to go in for new cartridges ever so often. The frequency depends totally upon the volume of print and the print density. If the pages you are printing consume lots of ink, you might find yourself with an exhausted cartridge in just a few days. Do not be fooled by the ads that state ’2000 pages per cartridge’. Look out for the fine print and you will see that this statement holds true when one is printing documents under special circumstances.

In most cases the number of pages the cartridge is rated for depends upon the percentage of the printed page that is covered by the ink. Most cartridges provide an estimated printed page count when the ink does not cover more than 10% of the printed page. Under such circumstances, the end user can expect the cartridge to deliver the number of pages it claims. However, it is tough to calculate print out’s this way. One page, full of graphics’ is equivalent to 10 pages of normal text matter… or even more.

If you are using bold text in your copy, the number of pages per cartridge will further reduce. It is keeping these things in mind that the cost per page of printed paper is calculated. Most people do not bother to study all these details. They just look at the cost of the cartridge instead of looking at the amount of ink their printed pages will consume. If your work involves printing out a letter or two per day, and you do not require high quality output, you can easily opt in for the refurbished cartridges.

They are quite cheap and provide excellent print quality as long as you are printing text only. However, if your job involves lots of high quality images, it is recommended that you opt in for compatible cartridges. Not only do they provide you with excellent text printouts, they also provide you with superior quality images too. The quality of their printout is on a par with the printouts provided by the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges. If you have visited any online store that deals in printer supplies and have noticed discount ink cartridges, you can be rest assured that these cartridges are either refurbished ones or compatible ones.
